Kaduna Bye-elections: SDP, ADC Disown Alleged Coalition, Label Signatories “Impostors”

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State have separately distanced themselves from claims of a coalition ahead of the August 16 bye-elections, describing the purported alliance as false and misleading.

In a statement signed by the SDP State Chairman, Hon. Adamu Idris, the party dismissed a publication credited to one Hon. Nasiru Maikano, who allegedly announced a partnership between the two parties.

“The said Hon. Nasiru Maikano is neither the chairman nor a representative of the SDP in Kaduna State. He is not a registered member of the party, and no bonafide member of the SDP can be party to such an unholy statement capable of undermining our party’s prospects,” Idris said.

He stressed that the SDP remains independent in the forthcoming polls, fielding Comrade Johnathan Maikaratu Wushiri as its candidate for the Kajuru/Chikun Federal Constituency bye-election. The party also urged voters in Zaria Kewaye and Basawa State Assembly Constituency to disregard any statements from the alleged impostors.

Idris warned that the actions of those behind the coalition claims violate provisions of the SDP’s 2022 constitution (as amended) and would be reported to relevant party organs and security agencies. He called on members to remain law-abiding and comply strictly with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations before, during, and after the elections.

Similarly, the ADC in Kaduna State also denied entering into any alliance with the SDP for the August 16 bye-elections in Kajuru/Chikun Federal Constituency, Zaria Kewaye, and Sabon Gari Constituencies.

Shehu Sani Urges Electorate to Vote APC, Sustain Uba Sani’s Good Works

Shehu Sani Urges Electorate to Vote APC, Sustain Uba Sani’s Good Works

Ahead of the forthcoming bye-elections in Kaduna, former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has called on the electorate to come out en masse and vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, supporting the APC is necessary to “sustain the progress and development” achieved by Governor Uba Sani’s administration in the last two years.

In a statement personally signed by him, Senator Sani cautioned voters against what he described as “deceit and wool-pulling” by those campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the polls.

He praised Governor Uba Sani for demonstrating capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy and promote peaceful coexistence since assuming office.“

I call on voters in Chikun, Zaria, and across Kaduna State to vote APC for more impactful progress and to ensure that the good works of Governor Uba Sani are not derailed,” he said.

The senator noted that Kaduna State is beginning to witness the dividends of good leadership at both the state and federal levels, stressing that there is “no alternative to the APC now,” as the people can feel a real sense of leadership.“

We want them to know that the people are wiser now, and they understand the gimmicks behind the politics of division — and we will not fall for it again,” he added.

Dantsoho Pledges Renewed Ports Efficiencies for Exports Performance, Sustainability.

Dantsoho Pledges Renewed Ports Efficiencies for Exports Performance, Sustainability.

Managing Director Nigerian Ports, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho has tasked his team to renew commitment towards continuous improvement of the Port efficiencies that provided the backbone for the positive export performance Nigeria has recorded thus far in the successive quarters of year 2025.

Speaking during the recently concluded NPA Management Retreat in Onne Rivers State, Dantsoho said “we are proud of the excellent work being undertaken by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council as evident in the increased export numbers passing through our platforms, but we cannot rest on our laurels, we must commit to a continuous improvement paradigm of Port operations and service delivery that places high premium on issues of sustainability”.

Elucidating further Dantsoho stressed that
“minimizing environmental impact through eco-friendliness, promotion of social responsibility, and ensuring long-term economic viability are the drivers of global progress, and we cannot afford to be left behind. We owe posterity a duty to infuse sustainability paradigms into the way we do things”.

The NPA Management Retreat themed “Repositioning the Nigerian Ports System for Sustainability” focused on reviewing and optimizing operational processes to enhance service delivery.

At the Retreat, the NPA Management Team undertook a Business Process Re-engineering to identify and address bottlenecks and inefficiencies, ensuring a more customer-centric approach.

Additionally, the NPA signed a Performance Bond, reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence and achieving the Priorities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as directed by the Honorable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola.

This strategic initiative underscores NPA’s dedication to improving efficiency, customer satisfaction, and long-term sustainability in Nigeria’s port system.

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) under whose technical guidance and partnership NPA established its Export Processing Terminals (EPT) reported an unprecedented growth in Nigeria’s Non-Oil Exports reflecting that non-oil exports for H1 2025 reached US$3.225 billion, marking a 19.59% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Export volume also rose to 4.04 million metric tonnes.

This is coming on the heels of maiden call of the first wholly-Nigerian owned container vessel “MV Ocean Dragon” at the NPA Eastern Port of Onne in Rivers State. The vessel which is scheduled to operate weekly from Onne via Calabar channel will service ports in Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Egypt and South Africa.

Alleged Extrajudicial Killing in Barnawa: Shehu Sani Demands Justice for Slain Boy…Pays Condolence Visit to Bereaved Family

Shehu Sani Demands Justice for Slain Boy
…Pays Condolence Visit to Bereaved Family

A fresh case of alleged extrajudicial killing has sparked outrage in Barnawa, Kaduna State, after personnel of a security task force reportedly shot a young boy, Abubakar, at point-blank range.

The bereaved father, speaking with deep anguish, recounted that the operatives stormed the community, prompting residents to scatter in fear. He said he told his son not to run, believing there was nothing to fear. Moments later, an operative allegedly grabbed Abubakar from behind, drew a pistol, pressed it to his head, and fired — killing him instantly.

“This was not an accident; it was an execution,” the father said, calling for those responsible to face the full weight of the law.

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, visited the grieving family to offer condolences and condemned the killing as “an indefensible and barbaric act that violates every principle of human rights and the sanctity of life.”

Sani called on the Kaduna State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Human Rights Commission to urgently investigate the matter, prosecute the killer, and end what he described as “a growing culture of impunity” among some security agents.

“This was somebody’s child, not a statistic,” he said. “Justice for Abubakar is justice for every Nigerian who believes in the rule of law.”

The Human rights activist say the case underscores a worrying pattern of security forces using lethal force against unarmed civilians — a trend that continues to erode public trust and fuel tensions in vulnerable communities.

“We Don’t Care Which Party, Lere West Rallies Behind Tom Garba for 2027 Kaduna Assembly Race: A Grassroots Revolution

“We Don’t Care Which Party, Lere West Rallies Behind Tom Garba for 2027 Kaduna Assembly Race: A Grassroots Revolution

By May Etim

A political tidal wave is surging through Lere West in Kaduna State, as residents passionately rally behind Mr. Tom Garba, a renowned journalist and philanthropist, to contest the 2027 Kaduna State House of Assembly election.

From rural villages to bustling markets, communities are uniting in an unprecedented grassroots movement, declaring their support for Garba regardless of the political platform he chooses. Eight residents, representing diverse voices, have shared powerful testimonies about the momentum fueling this campaign, emphasizing that Garba’s character, not his party, is their focus.

In Lere, Gure, Garu, Lazuru, Ramin Kura and beyond, town halls and community gatherings buzz with enthusiasm for Garba, a native son of Lere West known for his tireless community service. “Tom Garba is our choice, our voice,” said Rabiu Sigau, a local Youth mobiliser. “He’s been empowering our youth through his Tom Garba Foundation and giving out scholarships without holding any office. We don’t care about the party; he’s the man we need.” Rabiu’s words echo a growing sentiment that Garba’s leadership transcends partisan divides.

Ezekiel Zuban, a politician and farmer in Gure/Kahugu ward, praised Garba’s tangible contributions. “His character is top-notch, he is a talk-and-do when others only make promises,” Zuban said. “Any party that fields him has my vote and my groups. He’s already acting like our representative.”

This cross-party appeal is a hallmark of Garba’s campaign, with residents like Ibrahim Ali, a trader in Doka, declaring, “Tom Garba is not just APC or PDP—he’s for all of us. I’m PDP, but I’ll support him on any platform.”

Naomi Luka, a women’s group leader, highlighted Garba’s commitment to inclusivity. “He listens to women and supports our businesses,” she said. “We’re tired of empty promises. Tom Garba is our hope for 2027, and we’ll back any party that gives him the ticket.”

Similarly, Moses Simon, a youth from Kahugu, emphasized Garba’s focus on education. “He’s provided books and scholarships for our children,” Simon said. “God willing, he’s our next member, no matter the party.”

Elder statesman Mato Garu, a community elder, underscored Garba’s ability to unite. “Tom Garba bridges divides—Muslim, Christian, young, old,” he said. “His heart is with Lere West. Any party that fields him is assured our maximum support.” Maryamu Adams, a market woman, echoed this: “He helped us with resources to grow our trade. I don’t care about party lines—Tom Garba is the leader we trust.”

Mallam Mohammed, a respected community figure, called Garba’s rise a “revolution for progress.” “He’s not like the politicians who forget us after elections,” he said. “We’re mobilizing for him because he’s already delivering. Any party with Tom Garba will win Lere West.” Abubakar Ali, a local teacher, added, “His work speaks louder than any campaign. He’s the embodiment of our hopes, and we’ll ensure he represents us in 2027, God willing.”

The fervor for Garba comes at a critical time for Kaduna’s competitive political scene, where the APC recently dominated local elections, but the PDP and the coalition party ADC remains a strong contender. Garba’s ability to attract support from both camps could reshape Lere West’s electoral dynamics. Political observers note that his philanthropy; Providing scholarships, advocating for infrastructure, and empowering youth even when he wasn’t sure of vying for any office has made him a unifying figure. “This is a people’s movement,” said Comr. Nehemiah Musa, a local activist. “Tom Garba is the awaited member for Lere West.”

As 2027 approaches, Lere West’s residents are clear: they want Tom Garba, not just a party. With communities mobilizing and voices like Joseph, Bitrus, and Adams leading the charge, Garba’s potential candidacy is poised to redefine leadership in Kaduna State.

Shehu Sani Joins Nigerians in Mourning Chief Audu Ogbeh

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has joined several Nigerians in mourning the passing of Chief Audu Ogbeh, who died today at the age of 78.

In a tribute shared on his X handle, Sani described Ogbeh as a rare figure who straddled two distant generations of Nigerian politics — serving as a minister in the Second Republic, and later as both party chairman and minister in the Fourth Republic.

“He once admitted that he was more of an idealist. He was the man who hosted President Olusegun Obasanjo for breakfast in his house and by lunchtime was relieved of his position,” Sani recalled. “The British export cornflakes to us; he tried to export yam to them.”

Sani praised Ogbeh’s intellectual depth, noting that he “spoke more like an academic than a politician” and lauded him as “a thinker, a philosopher, and a lonely visionary in a strange clime.”

“May his soul rest in peace,” Sani concluded.

GOVERNOR UBA SANI’S LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY

,By Muhammad Kabir Uthman

GOVERNOR UBA SANI’S LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY

By Muhammad Kabir Uthman
(Special Assistant to the Governor on Legal Matters
Writing from Kaduna State Government House)

Leadership philosophy refers to the guiding beliefs, values, and principles that shape how a leader thinks, behaves, and makes decisions to achieve goals in both public and private engagements.

At the core of effective leadership is a commitment to the collective good. A visionary leader defines success not by personal gain but by how lives are transformed under their stewardship. Governor Uba Sani embodies this ethos. His leadership is anchored in shared values, a clear vision, and a constitutional framework rooted in service and justice.

His guiding philosophy is drawn from the Nigerian Constitution and the laws of Kaduna State. He believes that the heart of governance lies in prioritizing the welfare of the common man. For him, leadership is a divine trust—an opportunity bestowed by Allah (SWT) to use time, energy, and resources to better the lives of citizens, in line with the objectives enshrined in Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

HIS MISSION AND VISION

Some leaders are made; others are born. Governor Uba Sani is a rare blend of both. A natural leader and silent achiever, he is a reformer, peace-builder, and a unifying force. His leadership journey is already etching itself into the political history of Kaduna State.

Upon assuming office on May 29, 2023, he assured the people of Kaduna State that his administration would implement programs and policies that promote unity, social stability, and a conducive environment for both public and private sector growth. His blueprint outlined a series of institutional reforms aimed at strengthening every sector of human development.

He committed to adherence to the rule of law, prioritization of security, educational transformation, and the provision of critical infrastructure—all pillars receiving unprecedented attention under his stewardship.

To deliver meaningful development, Governor Uba Sani’s administration is guided by three key elements: vision, mission, and values.

THE VISION

Vision defines what purposeful leaders aspire to achieve in the future. It serves as a compass for decision-making and as a source of inspiration. A strong vision must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). Governor Uba Sani’s vision is to build a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous Kaduna—where governance is inclusive, infrastructure is modernized, and human capital is prioritized.

By articulating a clear vision and rallying his cabinet around it, he motivates his team and citizens to work collectively toward a shared future.

THE MISSION

The mission outlines the strategic objectives of government and the methods to achieve them. It targets the leadership, executive councils, and stakeholders. Governor Uba Sani’s mission is to lay the institutional, economic, and social foundation for a secure, productive, and equitable Kaduna. His government’s activities are structured to translate this mission into measurable achievements.

VALUES

Values form the ethical foundation of leadership. They guide choices, behavior, and policy priorities. Governor Uba Sani places high premium on integrity, accountability, transparency, and justice. He surrounds himself with competent individuals and works as part of a cohesive team to implement state policies and programmes.

A MAN OF GENEROSITY AND BENEVOLENCE

Fondly called Sarkin Kyauta (Master of Generosity), Governor Uba Sani has been known for his compassion and giving nature since childhood. His generosity is rooted in family tradition, nurtured by a deep belief in Allah’s provision. According to his wife, fairness, care, and love are foundational to his family life.

He is the type who gives to friends without hesitation and often puts others before himself. One of his close associates once remarked that Governor Uba Sani’s generosity stems from his detachment from materialism and his trust in divine reward.

SIMPLICITY PERSONIFIED

Simplicity defines Senator Uba Sani’s lifestyle. He is down-to-earth, modest in appearance, and approachable in manner. As someone privileged to work with him, I can attest that he is humble, friendly, and straightforward. His openness and honesty attract people to him; they know their concerns will be sincerely addressed.

He is a firm believer in justice, frowns upon dishonesty, and holds peace and confidentiality in the highest regard. He is a dependable man—one you can trust with your secrets and count on in times of need.

A TRUE SERVANT LEADER

In democratic governance, leadership is a public trust—bestowed through the ballot, earned through integrity, and sustained through service. Senator Uba Sani has chosen to lead through servant leadership, a time-honored model rooted in humility, sacrifice, and moral responsibility.

His leadership style reflects discipline, accountability, prudence, confidence, and commitment. He is resolute in fulfilling his campaign promises, fully aware that any failure to deliver on them would damage public trust.

Governor Uba Sani believes that leadership is not about conferring favors but fulfilling the rights of the people. He aligns his actions with the Abraham Lincoln ideal: “government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

A CREDIBLE LEADER PER EXCELLENCE

Having worked closely with him, I can confidently describe Governor Uba Sani as an inspiring and principled leader. His leadership style is grounded in dedication, discipline, and progressive ideals. He is forthright, fearless, and fair—a model politician who brings honesty and the fear of Allah into the corridors of power.

Despite having the authority to manipulate or profit from government ventures, he consistently shuns corrupt practices. He places public interest above personal gain and resists the temptation of quick wealth.

A LEADER WITH A DIFFERENCE

What distinguishes Governor Uba Sani is his unwavering fear of Allah and deep sense of accountability. He leads with moral uprightness, truthfulness, and a profound commitment to justice.

His participatory leadership style encourages citizen engagement and transparency. He allows people to contribute ideas and participate in governance, reinforcing his administration’s responsiveness and inclusiveness.

Governor Uba Sani is building a legacy that will stand the test of time. His sincerity, focus, and development-driven agenda place him among the finest leaders Kaduna State has ever produced.

His quest for people-centered progress and inclusive development remains unmatched.

Sokoto Youth Forum Blasts El-Rufai Over Attack on Tinubu, Recalls Insults to Sardauna , Arrest of Sheikh Bello Yabo

Sokoto Youth Forum Blasts El-Rufai Over Attack on Tinubu, Recalls Insults to Sardauna , Arrest of Sheikh Bello Yabo

The Sokoto Democratic Youth Forum (SDYF) has come down hard on former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, over his recent comments seen as an attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a visit to Sokoto.

The Forum accused El-Rufai of fueling regional discord and reminded the public of his past controversial remarks about the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, as well as the arrest of Islamic cleric Sheikh Bello Yabo.

In a statement issued to journalists in Kaduna on Saturday, the Forum expressed dismay at El-Rufai’s political maneuvers, accusing him of attempting to manipulate northern sentiments against the President. They described his campaign against Tinubu as selfish and rooted in personal grievances rather than genuine concern for the people.

“We have not forgotten how El-Rufai insulted the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, nor have we forgotten how he ordered the arrest of respected Sokoto-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Bello Yabo. His visit to Sokoto is a provocation we totally reject,” the Forum stated.

The group criticized El-Rufai’s alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in what they described as a premature and desperate move to unseat President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

“There is no amount of insult or mobilisation that will discourage the average northerner from supporting President Tinubu. We have seen the bold steps he has taken to recover the economy, enhance security, and improve agricultural productivity across the country,” the statement read.

The Forum emphasized that Northern youths are now more politically aware and will not be manipulated by El-Rufai’s political theatrics. They called on youths across the 19 Northern states to disregard what they described as El-Rufai’s “failed coalition” and “personal vendetta.”

“Just because he didn’t get a ministerial appointment, El-Rufai has chosen to fight President Tinubu under the guise of a false coalition. We want to categorically state that we are in full support of the South completing its constitutionally guaranteed two-term tenure of eight years.”

The Forum concluded by reaffirming their commitment to national unity and democratic stability, stressing that political mischief will not derail the progress already made.

DANTSOHO FRONTLINES PRESIDENT TINUBU’S ‘NIGERIA FIRST’ POLICY AS NIGERIAN-OWNED CONTAINER VESSEL CALLS AT ONNE PORT.

DANTSOHO FRONTLINES PRESIDENT TINUBU’S ‘NIGERIA FIRST’ POLICY AS NIGERIAN-OWNED CONTAINER VESSEL CALLS AT ONNE PORT.

Abubakar Dantsoho Managing Director Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has restated the readiness of the NPA to promote the indigenous ownership of shipping vessels in line with the ‘Nigeria First’ policy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

Speaking during the maiden call of wholly Nigerian-owned container vessel “MV OCEAN DRAGON” at the West African Container Terminal Onne Port Port Complex on Thursday 31st July, 2025, Dantsoho said “apart from the high loading capacity of 349 TEUs and several other distinctive features of this vessel, we are fascinated that MV Ocean Dragon is wholly Nigerian which speaks to the Renewed Hope “Nigeria first” policy of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the Nigerian Ports Authority’s renewed orientation towards Nigerian content development”.

Speaking further,Dantsoho opined “that the very fact that this vessel which can move thousands of Gross Registered Tonnages across African destinations within days, signposts the Nigeria’s commitment to the dictates of International Association for Ports and Harbours (IAPH) on multi-modalism and seamless Port-Hinteland Connectivity”.

IMPLEMENTING PRESIDENT TINUBU’S ‘NIGERIA FIRST’ POLICY IN THE MARITIME SECTOR:
Managing Director Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho in a handshake with Vice-President Clarion Shipping West Africa Ltd and Frederick Klinke Country Manager APMT Nigeria during the maiden call of “MV OCEAN DRAGON” first fully Nigerian-Owned Container Vessel at the Onne Port Complex on Thursday 31st July, 2025.

“This gives us great delight as it supports the rationale behind NPA’s simplified export processes through the Export Processing Terminals (EPTs) conceptualized to link local producers of value in the remotest hinterland to the farthest international centres of demand”.

“Let me seize this moment to reiterate that the Authority’s port modernization project and ongoing reform initiatives around our Port Operations is cognizant of the need to sustain the enabling business environment that midwifed the year-on-year attainment of national trade surpluses”.

“Coming on the heels of increasing growth in Nigeria’s transhipment figures from the Lekki Deep Seaport and the expansion in external goods trade reported by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) thus far for 2025, the coming on stream of MV Ocean Dragon to propel even greater volumes symbolizes the fact that the Nigerian business environment is progressively getting better”.

With shipping volumes promising to get higher, forward-looking investments such as the one we are gathered here to celebrate will certainly have a big impact in the long run”.

“I want to assure the global investment community that the Nigerian Ports Authority under the supervision of the investor-friendly Minister of Marine & Blue Economy His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, will continue to galvanize stakeholder efforts to continuously promote the ease of doing business all in a concerted bid to optimize the rich blue economy inherent in our maritime endowments”.

The container vessel owned by Clarion Shipping West Africa Limited, an indigenous investor which has a capacity of 349 Twenty-Foot-Equivalent Units (TEUs) gives a boost to concerted investment drive geared towards reaping the cost and time saving benefits of short-sea shipping by plying in-country maritime trade routes across Nigeria and the West African sub-region and offers an efficient alternative to road transport as the Authority’s efforts at deepening multi modalism crystallize.

The vessel is scheduled to operate across West Africa and beyond, servicing ports in Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Egypt, South Africa.
