Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Gabriel Saleh has debunked story making rounds in the media about some students, who claimed they were promised scholarships and not paid in the end .

The lawmaker, described the allegations raised by the students in the sponsored write-up as not only frivolous , but also concocted lies to damage his hard earned political image.

In the published story , some Medical Students and others Science Students from Kachia Kagarko Federal Constituency had cried out  over ‘Political gimmick’  of the former member and vowed to vote him out.”

He further explained:”I was popularly voted by the good people of Kachia/Kagarko to represented them in the House of Representatives and I did my very best to do so,while my tenure lasted.

“For the records,  they should cross check again in Kaduna State University, (KASU), when my team went to pay scholarships for students that were captured, located and paid accordingly . Anyone  in doubt should go to KASU and ask the Student Captured if they got it or not.

“All that I did were documented and there was no time that I promised and failed our people.

“Those that were captured  for scholarships  by team  were shortlisted and  paid to KASU . Before  going to  press, I expected those who carried such frivolous story to confirm whether those captured got it or not .”

The lawmaker, who expressed displeasure over the story noted ,” I have four years tenure, how would I promised to take off tuition fees for medical students who will be in school after my 4 years tenure.

While describing the story as the  handiwork of political enemies, who are  threatened by his popularity, he said, “It’s a matter of time, God will vindicate me and expose their evil machinations.”

Speaking about the Petition with claim that he supporter Labour Party presidential candidate during the elections , Hon. Saleh simply referred  the detractors  to Hon. Faleke.”

He however stressed, ” Anyone in doubt about my contributions to Asiwaju’s campaign and election victory should ask my  colleague Faleke ,who was  then the Secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council of Asiwaju.”

According to him, the public should know that the faceless group, which wrote the petition under  guise of ‘Concerned APC Members Kaduna State’ (Kachia/Kagarko Federal constituency) was sponsored to de-campaign him . Adding  that If there was a need for a petition, it should come from the party Chairman of the polling unit, ward or even the State office.

He explained further,”There are 22 wards , why is it that there are no signatures from the wards? That is to show that the whole idea is a lie and calculated attempts to reduce my popularity ahead of the by-election.

Over 110 motorcycles and some vehicles were distributed and good number of our youths employed  in critical positions.

“And these good works ,we have promised to continue to do if re-elected.”

In a reaction to the issue  of petition against Hon. Saleh via telephone, the Chairman of  All Progressives Congress (APC), Kachia local Government, explained: In the first place, most of those who signed the petition are not our party members. How did they arrive at the conclusion that Hon. Gabriel Saleh Har was engaged in anti party activities at any time ,when they not  members of the party?

“One name we saw on the so called petition, Junaidu is a suspended member of the party. He was caught red- handed on video working against our lawmaker for the upcoming rerun election.Another person who signed ,was the former party secretary, Mr. Daniel Ibrahim ,who has debunked signing the petition and the other persons is not our members. The Petition does not hold water as far as we are concerned, thus should be disregarded .

“On the the forthcoming rerun election for Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency, the Chairman said , ” APC is battle ready for landslide victory. All we know is that Hon Gabriel Saleh Har is a loyal party member, who has always sponsored the party and its activities without looking back.We know him as one  who takes care of the party.Of course, if you’re in power, you will have more enemies, more so, that he’s widely known  for  given to people and helping the less privileged .

“Ahead of the rerun the party,we are more determined  and working tirelessly to ensure overwhelming victory God willing.”

Similar, the APC Chairman Kagarko local Government area, Mr. Christopher Mailafiya discredited the petition and described  it  as a “Fiction of imagination” of the writers.

” We can’t allow such shenanigans to distract us from winning the forthcoming rerun election . Hon. remains the candidate to beat and the party is leaving no stone unturned to make  sure Hon. is again returned as our House of Representatives member.”

….As INEC, APC ask Supreme Court to ignore PDP’s appeal

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, have asked the Supreme Court to ignore the appeal brought before it by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Mohammed Ashiru Isa.

INEC and APC in separate preliminary objections against hearing of the appeal insisted that the petition by the PDP and Isa is incompetent and worthless to be considered for adjudication.

At Thursday’s proceedings, the two respondents drew the attention of the apex court to the findings by the Kaduna State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal to the effect that the petition was not filed in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

Among others, the electoral body and the APC maintained that records established that the petitioners acted in breach of Paragraph 18(1) of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, 2022, when they prematurely applied to the tribunal for the issuance of a pre-hearing notice.

They explained that the law provided that such an application must be filed seven days after the close of pleadings by the parties.

According to them, the law is that a case must be initiated by due process of the law.

They subsequently asked the Supreme Court to turn down any request to attach probative value to the appeal and to either strike out the appeal or dismiss it in its entirety.

INEC and APC were represented by Abdullahi Aliyu, SAN, and Mohammed Sani Katu, SAN, respectively.

In the main appeal, governor Uba Sani represented by Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, asked the apex court to dismiss the appeal for want of merit and substance.

Ojo, a former Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice canvassed that the totality of the case of the PDP and its governorship candidate did not establish any of their allegations.

The senior lawyer argued that most of the appellants’ witness statements were invalid because they were not filed alongside the petition.

Besides, the former AGF informed the apex court that the witnesses brought by the appellants gave hearsay evidence against the March 18, 2023 election of governor Uba Sani.

He thereafter asked that the appeal be dismissed and that the concurrent findings of the Court of Appeal and the Tribunal which had earlier upheld the election of his client be upheld.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who led a panel of five Justices, after taking arguments from lawyers, announced that judgment has been reserved till a date that would be communicated to parties.

The court of appeal in Abuja had on November 24 last year in a unanimous judgment affirmed the election of Uba Sani as Kaduna State governor.

The PDP and Ashiru challenged the outcome of the governorship election held in the state on March 18.

They alleged that Uba was not duly elected by a majority of valid votes cast in the election, adding that the election was invalid by reason of corrupt practices and non-compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

They further alleged that some polling unit results were wrongfully cancelled, insisting that there were inconsistencies in accreditation records from the INEC.

However, in a judgment delivered on September 28, two of the three Tribunal judges dismissed the petition on technical grounds.

Victor Oviawie, who led the panel, said that the petition was deemed abandoned because the PDP and its candidate did not file their pre-hearing application within the time prescribed by law.

ONSA N32b Budget:Secured Personnel, More Operational Buildings Required to  Fight Insecurity Efficiently

ONSA N32b Budget:Secured Personnel, More Operational Buildings Required to  Fight Insecurity Efficiently

Group under aegis of Forum for Transparency and Good Governance rose in defense of the sum of N31.915 billion budget for the construction of new buildings of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

According to the group, the N32 billion new NSA buildings is not an issue of misplacement of priority, considering the need for conducive environment for effective intelligence gathering and operations. More so , that the National Security Advisor, Malam Nuhu Ribadu is renowned for transparency, accountability and due diligence in management of public office and funds during his days as EFCC boss.

In a press statement signed by Mal Garba Ibrahim Gimba , the Coordinator of Forum for Transparency and Good Governance, the group said information gathered revealed that the security challenges facing Nigeria today is far beyond field operations. Noting ,there is no doubt  that combined military operations have not yielded required results over the years.

The statement further reads: “We believe part of reasons for building more offices for ONSA  in the face of soaring security threats is to put in place sustainable measures to protect people, assets, and information from physical and digital threats.

“Reports in the increase in number of kidnappings and bandits’ attacks on citizens and local farmers across  the country , these recurring cases call for a proactive intelligence gathering via technology driven approach if we want  lasting solutions  .

“Overall, security officers are tasked with securing the country , citizens by staying on patrol, monitoring surveillance equipment, performing building inspections, guards to avoid security lapse, thus the  new building for ONSA according  to information gathered, will ensure a safe environment through a team effort of diligent active patrol, strict access control, monitoring, and equipment control.

  • “This is why we see those who described the allocation for the NSA’s new buildings as misplaced priority as  either trying to find unnecessary fault lines or ignorant about the important of a permanent working and documentary space for intelligence gathering officers.

“We make bold to say ,you can’t have an effective operations, proper intelligence gathering and decisive response to detect and rid our society of the daredevil insurgents and bandits without a place conducive for proper planning and strategy.

“Though Some civil society organisations (CSOs) and security experts have challenged the rational behind  voting such huge amount of money for new NSA buildings, Nigeria cannot to repeat same mistake often and often.

“For Nigeria to conquer the recurring cases of banditry and terrorism, the bar for intelligence gathering and operations must go beyond what is obtainable presently.

“There suggestions  from CSOs that  the funds should rather be used to equip and empower the military agencies, especially the police, in order to tackle the deteriorating security challenge in the country, but  the question is,what have we achieved with past budgetery allocations to dame agencies?

“For the purpose proper view of the ONSA  budget , we refer to Daily Trust report, which said,  N65,002,523, 046 allocated to the ONSA in the 2024 budget, N34.9 billion is for capital expenditure; while N30 billion is for recurrent expenditure.

“Out of the N30 billion, overhead cost is N18 billion while personnel cost is N12 billion.N1.4bn earmarked for police arms.

“The budget also revealed the ONSA budgeted N1.4 billion for the Nigeria Police Force’s arms and ammunition, including protective gears such as bullet proof vests and helmets.

“The item, with the code ERGP4103042 in the fiscal document, indicated that N443, 364,563.59 was meant for protective gear; and N1 billion was for arms and ammunition.

“The ONSA also set aside N8.5 billion for subscription to professional bodies and another N2.135 billion for security charges, with N105 million to pay office rent and N182.9 million for residential rent.

“The  budget also include N5.4 billion for security operations, N52.2 million for cleaning and fumigation services, N136.1 million for fueling of vehicles, N112.9 million for “other transport equipment fuel cost”, N172.9 million for fuelling of generators, N27.7 million for bank charges and N41.2 million for welfare packages.”

Alleged N585m Fraud : Documents reveals Betta Edu’s Adherence to Due Process

Alleged N585m Fraud : Documents reveals Betta Edu’s Adherence to Due Process

The suspended minister, Dr. Betta Edu, currently facing investigation for an alleged N585 million fraud, is said to have meticulously followed existing due processes, according to a source conversant with modern administrative procedures.

The source explained that senior officials of the Ministry, notably Halima Shehu – who handled the entire process, seemed to have disappeared from the controversy, describing the development as tactical manoeuvre and calling on President Bola Tinubu to demand further clarification on the matter.

The documents reveal Edu’s alleged involvement in a fund transaction request, approved and executed into Mrs. Bridget’s account, with sources from the Ministry confirming adherence to Financial Regulations applicable to MDAs.

The document asserts that the suspended minister adhered to established processes within the humanitarian ministry, supported by Financial Regulations for MDAs.

Another document shares details of the 2021 FG’s payment to project accountant personal accounts in MDAs, highlighting Mrs. Bridget’s role in overseeing financial activities related to the program.

Despite financial regulations binding MDA transactions, the released documents argue that the minister’s actions align with established procedures, emphasizing Mrs. Bridget’s duty to manage funds disbursement and retirements under the specified regulations.

The funds in question were said to be intended for beneficiaries under Mrs. Bridget’s monitoring and supervision through a payment system. Notably, Mrs. Bridget, an Assistant Director and civil servant in the ministry, is stated to be unrelated to Dr. Betta.

The source from the ministry defends Mrs. Bridget, asserting that the payment request process was well-established, insisting there was no illegality involved.

The source argues that the controversy appears to be a trap set to tarnish the image of the government, emphasizing that no money is missing and the program’s transactions were successful. The source questions the call for Dr. Betta Edu’s resignation, pointing out her proactive reporting of a missing 44 billion from the NSIPA account, with a subsequent recovery of 39.8 billion.

The source contends that the minister’s commitment is driven by a desire to serve and achieve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s poverty-alleviation plans, dismissing accusations of fraudulent intentions. The narrative underscores Dr. Betta Edu’s dedication to breaking records and her courage in pursuing the government’s goals despite challenges.

According to the source from the ministry: “She has done nothing illegal, it was just a trap which I believe she’s going to survive. The process by which she requested the payment to Mrs Bridget, was already established in the ministry, there are regulations for it within the ministry and all MDAs have been using it over the decades. So it’s not that Edu had bad intentions nor did the destination account associated with her, but I think some individuals just want to use her to embarrass the government. People that are after her position took advantage of the situation and the target is to tarnish the image of the government.

“What people are ignoring is that, is money missing? No. Did the program carry out the transactions successfully? Yes.

“So why call for her head?
Was the 44 billion missing from the NSIPA account in the space of one week, as she reported to the appropriate authorities for further investigation, stolen? Yes

“And 39.8 billion has been recovered so far, back from the perpetrators and paid back into the government account? Yes.

“This document and regulation process should let Nigerians know that she’s not associated with any intention of fraud in this government. Edu is just a young woman willing to serve, break records in this government, and achieve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s plans to pull millions of Nigeria out of Poverty, which many are scared of her courage and hardworking spirit,”the source said

The source also urged President Tinubu to check the activities of old brigade politicians working against “the brilliant new breed appointees in his administration”

Fadojoe commends president Tinubu on the new Int’l Passport Policy, Humanitarian Ministry probe, as he raised alarm last year November

Fadojoe commends president Tinubu on the new Int’l Passport Policy, Humanitarian Ministry probe, as he raised alarm last year November.

Comrade Faduri Oluwadare Joseph (FADOJOE), the national leader of Rescue Movement For New Nigeria aka Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative, who in a statement made available to pressmen, precisely November 16, 2023; had raised alarm over what he alleged then as “immigration racketeering” resulting in Nigerians been exploited during the process of obtaining International Passport and on other issues bordering on corruption in governance.

But in another statement made available to pressmen in Kaduna State, on Thursday January 11, 2024 by the National Director of Media and Publicity for the group, the activist popularly called Fadojoe has commended the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) led federal government of Nigeria for the prompt response in the implementation of the policy that will ensure effective curbing of any kind of racketeering, as relate to the issue of International Passport; which resulted in an International Passport processing portal been officially released to the public on Monday, January 8, 2024; as well as the suspension and probe of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Chimaobim Edu.

“Opposition is not just about criticism, but when the government gets it right, there is need to commend such efforts, if truly what we are after is good governance. On this note, the leadership and the entire members of Rescue Movement For New Nigeria aka Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative, hereby commend the President Bola Tinubu led administration on the new policy for International Passport seamless processing.

“Those following our various statements always made available to pressmen for both mainstream and new media, will recall that on 16th November, 2023 I had raised alarm that Nigerians are been exploited during the process of International Passport and in some of our statements, we had raised lamentation over the gross corruption bedeviling our dear country, Nigeria.

“All Nigerians following the trend of events in Nigeria will agree that the handling of the International Passport processing and the suspension and probe of Betta Edu deserve commendation.”

Fadojoe thus, called on the present government to do more to make Nigerians proud of their country. “This commendation doesn’t mean that everything has fallen in line yet, because there is still many ground to cover if Nigerians must enjoy good governance. And we urge president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of his cabinet to give their best in delivery of dividends of democracy as the country has sank too deep and needs to be rescued as a matter of urgency.

It is of note that, the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had announced in December that the Federal Government was working to ensure a full automation system of passport application in the country. This came to fruition on Monday January 8, 2024 as the, the Minister launched the first online portal for Nigerian International Passport application in Abuja.

This online portal has made the processing of International Passport seamless that any Nigerian can now apply for his/her International Passport online, pay the exact required fee online and book for capturing appointment without passing through any middle person or any immigration officer.

Also Betta Chimaobim Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation was on Tuesday January 9, 2024 invited by the EFCC for questioning over the controversial approval she was alleged ti have given for payment of about N585 million of public money into a personal bank account and she was suspended to face probe and the Permanent Sectary, Enitan takes over.

Betta Edu’s Contract Scandal:Group Defends Tunji-Ojo , Says He Resigned Before Becoming Minister

Betta Edu’s Contract Scandal:Group Defends Tunji-Ojo , Says He Resigned Before Becoming Minister

Group under aegis of Forum for Transparency and Good Governance (FTGG) has come out strongly to defend the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over his involvement in an alleged N438.1 million consultancy contract between New Planet Project Limited and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under the suspended Minister, Betta Edu.

According to the group, since documents revealed that the Interior Minister resigned as a Director of New Planet Project Limited in 2019, it would amount to witch-hunting  to link him to the contract scandal.

The group, which explained reasons for defending the Minister in a press statement signed by Dr. Mustapha Ahmed Malumfashi said it is unfair and ridiculous to link the Minister to the alleged contact scam, when he resigned from the company on 4th February,2019  after he won election into the House of Representatives  with a Certified True Copy of Corporate Affairs Commission as far back as 2019 to prove this.

The statement further reads : “But Tunji-Ojo, who reacted while appearing on Channels TV Politics Today on Monday night, agreed  he co-founded the company ten years ago, but resigned from directorship.

“The Minister, who described the report as shocking, did say he was not involved in the day-to-day running of New Planet Project Limited and all that is expected is to confirm the veracity of his claim.

“However, form our investigation, Tunji-Ojo ,who in our estimation has being doing well since appointed as minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu didn’t benefited from Edu’s alleged fake N3 billion social register contract.

“We have seen legitimate documents which showed that the interior minister resigned as a director at New Planet Project Limited nearly five years ago.

“Our investigation further revealed that New Planet Project Limited, with registration number 804833, was said to have been registered on March 3, 2009 with a Certified True Copy of the Corporate Affairs Commission documents  obtained ,dated August 8, the minister had alongside four others resigned as directors on February 1, 2019.

“Section A contained names of “directors ceasing to hold office” from February 1, 2019. They included Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Abimbola Tunji-Ojo, Okpanachi George Echiye, Idris Shuaibu, and Hassan Suleiman.

“The document was signed by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Akinmulewo Amos Oladapo as Director and Director/Secretary/Authorised officer, respectively and it  was further presented for filing at the CAC by one Abu Dennis, on February 6, 2019.

He confirmed during the interview with Channels that he co-founded the New Planet Project with his wife 15 years ago but resigned and  remained a shareholder in the company.

“Of course,  public service rules do not prohibit public officers from being shareholders. What public service rules say is that you cannot be a director of which I had resigned about five years ago.”

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Edu over corruption allegations on Monday.

Shortly after Edu’s suspension, reports emerged that the Minister paid a company owned by the Minister of Interior a total amount of N438.1 million for consultancy services.

“We therefore urge the President to summon  the Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo, over his alleged involvement of the controversial N438 million contract scandal involving the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.”
