The Inhumane Treatment Of Over 100 Minors Over Protesting Against Bad Governance Is Crime Against Humanity
-Rescue Movement.

The Rescue Movement For New Nigeria aka Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative has strongly condemned the inhumane treatment of the 125 people arrested during the 1st August, 2024 #Endbadgovernance protest of which over 100 of them are minor, describing the treatment as crime against humanity and calling on the federal government to immediately commencement investigation into the scenario as some of us still want to assume that such acts could be the handiwork of overzealous official.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday November 2, 2024 by the National Director Media and Publicity of the group, Rev. Olorunmagba Emmanuel, stressing that watching the disturbing video of the malnourished minors that were brought from prison to the “court for trial after being detained for over 90 days, anyone with human sympathy cannot hold back tears. And this is a total shame to our country and those responsible should not go unpunished, if and only if the order for such treatment did not come from the federal government.

“The condition of the minors as can be clearly observed from the video shows that they must have subjeced to serious hunger and other kinds of maltreatment for protesting against hunger under a democratic government that all the key actors also protested against the government even when the situation of the country was still far better than it is, of which both the present president and the immediate past president were always at the forefront of protest against the then sitting government including leading protest against removal of subsidy that the same President Tinubu was leading protest against has come to now announce the removal of the same subsidy in a manner that has plunged the country into economy nosedive resulting in acute hunger that necessitated the August 1, 2024 protest”.

“In a sane society, even animals prepared for slaughter deserve better treatment than what was done to those minors for taking part in a peaceful protest demanding for better governance.

Stressing further that the “Justice Obiora Egwuatu who presided over the case, who could not hold back tears seeing as the minors were collapsing and some fainting, but still went ahead to give bail conditions that will be so difficult to meet, leading to taking the minors back to prison, one will want to wonder of our respected judge is being compelled by higher authority to hand down bail conditions to the very poor minors each with the sum of N 10 million naira, a suretie of someone not less than level 16 in the civil service with a means of identification. Yet in the same country a lawmaker that assaulted a bolt driver was granted bail in sum of N500,000.

“For minors arrested in Kano and some from Kaduna and brought to Abuja to be charged charged with terrorism by the Nigeria Police Force alleging that they intended to overthrow the government of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not only laughable, but a total shame to our country.

“We don’t only expect statement from the presidency over this dastardly acts, but appropriate action to really show that the actors are not acting on order from the presidency”, the statement concluded.

ZAINAB MUSAWA: Celebrating An Amazing Amazon

OPINION:

ZAINAB MUSAWA:

Celebrating An Amazing Amazon

In the annal of public service, few individuals weave threads of compassion, innovation, humility and transformative leadership as brilliantly as Hajia Zainab M. Musawa. Flashback, her journey is not merely a chronicle of administrative roles, but a formidable narrative of commitment to societal upliftment and empowerment.

Hajia Zainab’s distinguished path of public service began at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, where she served as a technical adviser to the Honourable Minister.

In this role, she demonstrated her remarkable ability to translate policy into impact that becomes visible to all and sundry.

Under her guidance, the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) became a lifeline for over 350,000 vulnerable individuals across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. This provided micro-loans that transformed economic prospects for countless families. Isn’t that amazing of Zainab?

When Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda appointed her as the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Zainab Musawa’s passion erupted like a transformative force. Guess what? She didn’t just occupy an administrative position; she breathed new life into a ministry that had previously languished in bureaucratic inertia.

Her strategic roadmap was not just a document but a dynamic blueprint for change. It focuses on gender mainstreaming and inclusion that aligned perfectly with Federal Government of Nigeria policies.

To crown this achievement, Hajia Zainab initiated the establishment of the gender-based violence center in Katsina State— call it sanctuary of hope or justice, it’s never a mismatched.

Today, the center has handled over 900 cases of violence, with most resulting in convictions. For survivors of abuse—women, children, and vulnerable individuals who had long suffered in silence—this center became more than an institution; it became a beacon of hope and healing.

Now, Hajia Zainab’s wing extended beyond institutional frameworks. She personally oversaw the renovation and equipping of critical infrastructure: the women’s multipurpose centre, Kankia groundnut processing women centre, and family support program schools in Katsina and Daura. These weren’t mere construction projects, but strategic investments in women’s empowerment and educational quality.

As a mark of recognition for exceptional contributions to Katsina state development, Hajia Zainab was awarded the best performing commissioner for 2023/2024. The award which many praised and described as a well-deserved acknowledgment of her relentless dedication to the underprivileged.

Transitioning to her role as Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Hajia Zainab Musawa continued her trajectory of transformative leadership. In just four weeks, she digitized data for over 31,000 teachers—a monumental step towards modernizing educational infrastructure. Breaking new ground, she conducted the first-ever comprehensive workshop and competency test for secondary school management, involving 1,300 school leaders.

Waxing stronger in credibility, excellence and performance, Hajia Zainab Musawa emerged as Nigeria’s Best Commissioner at the prestigious National Leadership Awards on the 30th October, 2024. The award was presented by the People’s Parliament Nigeria in collaboration with Leadership Awards Ltd. No doubt, this recent award strengthen the earlier mark of honor she received as Katsina State’s Best Commissioner for 2023/2024.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda as the Executive Servant of Katsina State, has consistently celebrated Musawa’s remarkable feats. Describing her role as a shining example of purposeful public service. Her work transcends traditional administrative boundaries. It embodies a holistic approach to societal development.

Hajia Zainab M. Musawa represents more than an accomplished public servant. She is a catalyst of change, a visionary who sees potential where others see challenges, and a leader who transforms systemic constraints into opportunities for growth and empowerment. Her legacy is not written in official records alone, but in the lives transformed, the voices amplified, and the potential unleashed across Katsina State. Indeed, she’s an amazing Amazon.

To me, I’ll say, from here; up, up and up Hajia Zainab Musawa the amazing amazon.

Over 2 weeks of persistent power outage in most part of Nigeria, another monumental national disaster

Over 2 weeks of persistent power outage in most part of Nigeria, another monumental national disaster

-Rescue Movement

Rescue Movement for New Nigeria aka Rescue the Vulnerable Initiative bemoans the persistent power outage in most part of northern Nigeria and some states in the south, that started over two weeks ago when the unfortunate news of national grid collapse broke out again.

In a statement issued and made available to pressmen by the National Director, Media and Publicity of the group, Rescue Movement For New Nigeria, Rev Emmanuel Olorunmagba, he describes the round the clock total black out as “another monumental national disaster that is now killing the already crippling businesses across the country.

“In a country already passing through so much, economic disaster as the overbearing high cost of fuel occasioned by the removal of subsidy, has resulted in prices of goods tremendously skyrocketing and crippling businesses; then we again heard of collapse of national (electricity) grid that has become repeated unfortunate event since APC took over power. Then over two weeks there has been total black out in 17 out of 19 states of Northern Nigeria being Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau

Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and some states in the southern part of Nigeria as well.

“This is already killing many small and medium scale businesses that had been groaning under the yoke of the negative consequences of the wrong, wrongly timed or wrongly implemented policies under this president Bola Ahmad Tinubu”.

Wondering if this administration really care so much about the welfare of the citizens, the group notes that those so much affected as those selling frozen food like chicken, fish, turnkey etc as many are now crying as they are dumping them away due to how lack of power has resulted in the destruction of their items.

Lamenting further that, others that have generator that can power their businesses are struggling with buying fuel that is already over N1,000 pump price, yet it’s difficult for them to get and they have to be forced to buy black market at outrageous cost of N1,500 per liter.

“This kind of terrible situation has never happened in the history of this country and even may be other part of the world. Where are we going in Nigeria?” he concluded.
