Kaduna Retreat: Investments Tribunal Trains Members on Latest Analytical Abilities, Entrepreneurial Skills

Kaduna Retreat: Investments Tribunal Trains Members on Latest Analytical Abilities, Entrepreneurial Skills

A retreat to keep the Members of the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST) abreast with the latest legal developments and sharpen their  analytical abilities and judicial reasoning skills through research and  ensure that the judgments and decisions of the Tribunal are logical, coherent, and legally sound has been concluded in Kaduna.

In a communique issued at the end of a retreat on the theme :“Value Addition to IST through Legal Research, Reasoning and Entrepreneurial Skills” held at Quarter House Hotel, Kaduna, the members of the Tribunal reflected on the journey so far in the roles of Members as adjudicators, recommit to better service delivery, whilst reinvigorating their passion for sustaining investors’ confidence in the Nigerian Capital Market.

The communique further reads :”The retreat is further aimed at keeping the Members abreast of the latest legal developments with a view to honing their analytical abilities and judicial reasoning skills through research, which will ultimately ensure that the judgments and decisions of the Tribunal are logical, coherent, and legally sound.

“The inclusion of entrepreneurial skills was to enable members build capacities and competencies that will be relevant both in and out of service.

“The objective of the retreat is two-fold:Capacity Building for Members of the IST to add value to the Tribunal and for their personal Success and Development; And reflect on Developments at the IST and plan for the Future towards Promotion of the Mandate of the Tribunal. Two papers were delivered as follows:Legal Research and Reasoning for Courts and Tribunals with Reference to Investments and Securities Tribunal: By Professor Rabiu Sani Shatsari of the Department of Public Law, Bayero University Kano (BUK).Entrepreneurship Skills for Serving and Retired Political Appointees with Focus on  Soft Skills for Judges: By Professor Abdullahi  Muhammed of the Department of Public Administration of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK)At the conclusion of the workshop held on Monday 16 – Wednesday 18, December, 2024 at Quarter House Hotel, Kaduna

“The following resolutions were reached.KEY TAKEAWAYS:A definition model which sees legal research as “the process of identifying and retrieving information necessary to support legal decision-making” was adopted. There is a distinction between the nature and extent of research of a trial judge and that of an appellate judge, for which the IST Members perform as both trial and appellate judges. It was noted that whilst both will necessarily do research in the context of the issues to be decided, a trial judge’s research is likely to be more of a routine thing than that of an appellate judge, who due to the relative seriousness and complexity of the matters before him, will be duty bound to engage in a more advanced kind of research.A judge unlike a legal scholar is regarded as a passive researcher   because he “cannot on his own either ascertain law or legal principles or apply them unless someone calls upon him to do so by invoking his jurisdiction.”Legal authorities are usually categorized as either primary or secondary.

“Primary legal authorities, because they are sometimes regarded as binding, enjoy higher degree of status than secondary ones in terms of the power to influence legal decisions.By the nature of the tribunal’s job, Mersky and Dunn research methodology is most apt; as it requires the researcher to :Identify and analyse the significant facts.Formulate the legal issues to be researched.Research the issues presented.Update.

“There is a dire need for the observance of the doctrine of judicial precedent or stare decisis in our judicial process.A judgment of any court is authoritative only as to that part of it, called ratio decidendi, which is the principle considered to form the real basis of the decision in question.

“On entrepreneurship, an entrepreneur is primarily regarded as someone who has the ability to identify needs and work towards solving such needs as they are problem solvers. It was noted that in starting a business, finance should not necessarily  be the first consideration but rather the articulation of a workable idea that will eventually attract funding.Business ideas could be generated via meaningful interaction with others; business ideas are also actionable dreams, i.e. putting flesh to your dreams.

“There is a need to have trusted and reliable hands to manage your business but such managers should be made to have a stake in the business i.e. be part-owners of the business. In that way their loyalty and commitment is secured. You must be humane towards your staff, by showing some empathy in your dealing with them.Entrepreneurs go alone but businessmen go together.

“The Tribunal in the course of the retreat paid a courtesy visit on the Chief Judge of Kaduna State, who warmly welcomed the Members and Management and promised to collaborate with the Tribunal

“By adopting this communique we reaffirm our commitment to upholding the highest standards of legal research and judicial reasoning in decision making at the IST and also leverage on the various tips outlined for building entrepreneurial skills.”

Bandits Camps: Katsina Government Applauds Successful Joint Air,Ground Operations at Bichi Hill

Katsina State Government

Press Release

KATSINA STATE APPLAUDS JOINT AIR AND GROUND OPERATION FOR SUCCESSFUL RAID ON ESTABLISHED BANDIT CAMPS AT BICHI HILL

The Katsina State Government has commended the Air Component (AC) of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army for executing a successful offensive against the notorious bandit kingpins, Manore, Lalbi and their cohorts. The operation, conducted on 19 December 2024, followed credible intelligence revealing the establishment of bandit camps around Bichi Hill, which had intensified banditry activities in Danmusa, Safana, and Kankara Local Government Areas.

The mission followed credible intelligence reports and several Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, which revealed the bandits’ hideouts. These criminals had been responsible for multiple cases of abductions, cattle rustling, and violent attacks on communities including Maidabino, Yantumaki, and Danmusa in Katsina State.

Upon confirming the targets, NAF attack platforms conducted robust precision airstrikes, bombing the identified locations in multiple passes. Surviving bandits attempted to regroup within Bichi Hill but faced a fierce ground offensive as advancing troops engaged them in prolonged firefights.

Despite their resistance, some bandits fled and took cover under nearby trees. The Air Component swiftly revisited the area, launching additional strikes on the hiding criminals. As the surviving bandits attempted to escape on motorcycles, air platforms tracked them to their new gathering point and conducted another successful strike.

The joint air and ground operation resulted in the neutralisation of scores of bandits, with several others sustaining injuries. Their hideouts and key operational facilities around the high ground were also destroyed, marking a significant blow to their operational capacity.

The Government of Katsina State, on behalf of its peace-loving citizens, commends the joint efforts of the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2 and 17 Brigade. Undoubtedly, the troops’ unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the state and the broader North West region is commendable. This latest operation has substantially weakened the operational capacity of the bandits and serves as a strong deterrent to any future attempts to establish criminal enclaves in the area.

Senate 2027: No Better Candidate Than Hon. Aminu Zaria.

Senate 2027: No Better Candidate Than Hon. Aminu Zaria.

By Comrade Musa Mohammed (Moonlight)

The time for the people of Kaduna Central to put on their thinking cap has come.

This is no time to pander to political party supremacy without questioning. Political parties, as has been emphasized over time are simply vehicles for promoting the vision and aspirations of the individuals, particularly in the Nigerian context without a clear-cut ideological foundation for the political parties.

What the people need at this point in our political journey are men and women with the capacity and character to deliver on their mandates.
From our experiences so far, there is no gain in saying the fact that the calibre of people elected as leaders determines the quality of democratic dividends that would be delivered to the citizens.

It is out duty to elect someone like HON. AMINU ZARIA, who I believe would deliver the devidens of democracy to make the lives of the people of his Constituency better.
With all indication, our democracy is wearing a new look to the extent that people with ideas and new visions ‘like Aminu’ are taking our political space by storm.

If we are looking for a candidate with the character and personal clout to deliver, then ‘AMINU ZARIA’ is the man.

With men Aminu Zaria occupying public offices across kaduna state and Nigeria, the land would yield her increase and the people will see reasons to celebrate democracy in the coming years. Those faces that represent the corruption and heartless failures of the past should be barred from the coming dispensation when character will reinforce hope and peace for a better Nigeria.

There is no better candidate for the senate in the 2027 general election than Aminu Zaria .

The time to elect AMINU ZARIA to replicate the magic of his visible successes in the corporate world in the senate has come.

AMINU ZARIA should be encouraged with our votes in 2027.
He is fully prepared.
He may not be a saint but he has demonstrated decorum and modesty in his service to the people.

He is a thinker. He is disciplined.
He has been a successful National development expert and Nigerian public servant, who has over a decades of experience in development policy formulation, public finance, and project implementation of no mean repute, with experiences on the board of several organizations, multi-national organizations and government agencies, he knows how to play boardroom politics and could be a huge asset to the National Assembly with the prospect of heading strategic committees of the senate.

These are the kind of people we should be sent to the senate and not some empty political noisemakers who boast of everything but achieve nothing for the people.

HON. AMINU ZARIA, our APC Candidate for the kaduna Central senatorial elections in 2027 will represents true change as he will brings a breath of fresh air to the political space.

We can understand why there is palpable faith and hope across the Kaduna Central Senatorial district in his capability and credibility account. The people had always craved a new dispensation and a new order in leadership.

Aminu Zaria comes to the political table with an amazing score in competency, in capacity, credibility, integrity, passion, humaneness and humanity and in believability.

No doubt, the impact of Aminu Zaria’s representation of Kaduna Central in the senate will be monstrous, magnificent and huge.

The 2027 political game is wearing a new look. The reality of the moment is to send men who can breast the tape with uncommon charm and grace.

The coming dispensation is for people with grit and audacity to dare the system to yield our lot. None of those that will soon join the race is better qualified and equipped than ‘HON. AMINU ZARIA’ in terms of professional qualifications.

His world-class taste and acclaim would galvanize the people to aspire for better things. His carriage is urbane and elegantly sophisticated.

He is already being referred to as the ‘Barrack Obama’ of KADUNA CENTRAL because of his unassuming mien and outlook.

Handsomely suave and polished, AMINU ZARIA is like a shining star in the firmament of Kaduna political cosmology. Kaduna Central deserve the best. Aminu Zaria is the best.
